The number is provided by a service called The Work Number. The Work Number provides this service for many different companies. The provided service permits you to quickly and securely, provide USPS employment verification, as well as your income. This provides you the ability to control access to this information. Employment verification is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You must provide the following information and take the following steps to verify your employment and/or income with the United States Postal Service:
For a Postal Service Income History, you will need the create a Salary Key to provide to the verifier. You can get the salary key from The Work Number or by calling 1-800-996-7566. You will login using the employee option. You will again need the Postal Service Employer Code (12946) and your employee ID number. When you are prompted for a PIN, simply enter the last four digits of your Social Security Number. Have a pen or pencil and something to write on ready, as you will be provided a six digit salary key that you will provide to anyone you want to verify your salary. Provide the verifier with the salary key and direct them to The Work Number or the Toll Free 1-800-367-5690.
